A 43-metre community suspension footbridge was delivered in Kazabe, Rwanda, providing safe, year-round access across the Sebeya River for schoolchildren, tea plantation workers and local villagers. Previously impassable for up to 45 days each year due to flooding, the river isolated the community from essential services including a school and church.
The project was delivered by WilkinsonEyre and COWI in collaboration with non-profit organisation Bridges to Prosperity. I acted as Communications Coordinator, responsible for documenting the build while also working hands-on as part of the construction team.
It was an intense and deeply rewarding experience. The accompanying short film captures the build process using footage I filmed on site, alongside audio recorded of local schoolchildren singing during the project.
